Press Release

On the occasion of World Water Day 2025, an intense and engaging tour was held from 17 to 21 March, involving over 1,000 students from 9 comprehensive schools across 14 school buildings in the Samnite city and its province.

In particular, the Samnite water service company visited the following comprehensive schools: CS G.B. Lucarelli, CS Moscati, CS Sant'Angelo a Sasso, CS F.G. Pascoli, PS De la Salle, the National Boarding School P. Giannone of Benevento; CI Ponte (including the school buildings in Paupisi and Torrecuso), CI of Telese Terme (including the school buildings in Solopaca and Castelvenere), and CI of S. Agata De Goti (including the school building in Durazzano).

Reprising a format that proved highly successful last year, Gesesa chose to celebrate World Water Day by meeting with over 1,000 students from 9 comprehensive schools across 14 school buildings, some located in municipalities not managed by the company. The physical representation of the natural and industrial water cycles allowed students to embark on a virtual journey through Gesesa’s plants and explore all the phases of the integrated water cycle.

Salvatore Rubbo, CEO of Gesesa, spoke at the 21 March conference “Water Supply in the City of Benevento”, organized by the University of SannioDepartment of Science and Technology.

“The importance of management,” stated Salvatore Rubbo, “shows that even in a context of potential emergency—which may affect some of the municipalities managed by Gesesa, including the situation in Benevento—there is room for potential tranquillity.” Thanks to the crucial effort of Mayor Mastella, water availability in Benevento is not a cause for concern, due to the activation of the Solopaca and San Salvatore Telesino wells. However, one issue remains that everyone is aware of and cannot overlook: the ancientness of the adductor system, which makes its operation fragile.

Domenico Russo, President of Gesesa, stated: “Knowledge, awareness, and sensitivity among new generations regarding the delicate issue of water represent our greatest hope for the future”. On behalf of the entire Board of Directors, the President thanked all the people at Gesesa who, through their daily commitment, made this exciting tour possible; the executives and the teachers of the many schools who showed great willingness and sensitivity; as well as the mayors and representatives of the involved municipal administrations. He also thanked the over 1,000 young students who participated in meetings with great interest and politeness. “We are aware – concluded Domenico Russo- words must be followed by actions. Gesesa, as the manager of the integrated water service, is ensuring a high-quality service to the community, despite numerous challenges, not only in water purification but also in water distribution. Much remains to be done, and it will be done in collaboration with the Sole Operator of the Samnite Water District, expected to become operational by the end of the year.

Finally, the President recalled - as already properly highlighted by Mastella, Mayor of Benevento – that the achievement of a historic milestone for the provincial capital and other municipalities in the province regarding the water supply issue was made possible thanks to the strong institutional synergy between the Mayor of Benevento, the Campania Region, Campania’s Water Board, and the water operator. The wells of Solopaca and San Salvatore Telesino will serve as reservoirs in the event of a drop in the Torano-Biferno water levels, ensuring that the city and the other municipalities involved will no longer face water supply shortages. Lastly, Domenico Russo noted that Mayor Mastella also highlighted how, according to the recently published 20th Cittadinanzattiva report, the city of Benevento ranks among the ten provincial capitals in Italy with the lowest water tariffs.
