Acea for World Energy Saving Day
With the company Acea Ambiente, we operate in Waste Management and, more specifically, in the disposal and waste-to-energy sector, in line with the most recent European trends regarding circular economy policies.
We are one of the leading Italian players with over 1.8 million tons of waste treated each year, and we are the benchmark operator for Central Italy, managing the main waste-to-energy facility and the largest composting plants in the regions of Lazio and Tuscany.
In accordance with our commitment in sustaniability, we carry out waste selection and recycling of paper, iron, wood, plastic and metal in our plants in Abruzzo, Lazio, Marche, Piedmont, Umbria, and Veneto.
In keeping with the new Business Plan, our strategy is to become an operator of increasing national relevance, maximising circularity, focusing on the reuse of resources, implementing and managing new end-to-end facilities.
Our strategy envisages:
For the second consecutive year Acea wins the EMAS award for the best innovative project involving energy from renewable sources
Waste recovery for the circular economy
We are committed to waste recovery, in support of the circular economy and the ecological transition for a more sustainable future.
Waste recovery may take place in various ways: reduction in volume, conversion to biogas or compost, but also waste-to-energy and recycling.
We have been investing in the circular economy for years, a commitment made concrete through the recycling and recovery of secondary raw materials, the transformation of organic waste into high quality compost and biogas for electricity production, the integration of sewage sludge treatment into its water services, the treatment of liquid waste, waste disposal, and waste-to-energy services.
We exploit the integration between our different water-related businesses to recover sewage sludge and send it to be treated for composting purposes.
According to the logic of a circular economy, the primary objective is to maximise the recovery of materials – in 2023 the volume of outgoing waste corresponds to 23% of the waste-to-energy volume, ensuring a reduction in the quantities for disposal and a reduction in the land consumption required for such purpose.
