Its over one hundred-year history is indissolubly linked to that of the capital.
Having opened in 1912, the Montemartini power plant accompanied the expansion of Rome and increased its productive capacity precisely in order to meet the energy needs of a constantly evolving city.
Its over one hundred-year history is indissolubly linked to that of the capital.
Nowadays, the power plant comes into operation only for situations of exceptional energy demand and can be managed remotely from the control room at the Tor di Valle Power Plant.
Although not 100% operational, the Montemartini power plant remains a point of reference for the city of Rome. Following its complete renovation by Acea, an entire area of the plant was transformed into a multimedia centre and exhibition space, under the Capitolini Museums, where you can visit the permanent, archaeological exhibition “Machines and Gods” or take part in the numerous temporary exhibitions, that are periodically organised.
