Acea for World Energy Saving Day
A heritage of “great historic interest” as stated, back in 1999, by the Superintendence for Archives and Bibliography for Lazio when it entrusted its control and preservation to the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism.
The Historical Archive testament to Acea’s activities and evolution since the date it was founded: 2,476 linear meters organized with the help of Bucap, strategic partner in the digital transformation project and leader in digital document archiving and management. A recovery and valorization project that required years of work along multiple development stages.
Since 2008, all materials in the photographic archive and documents from a number of different company warehouses were progressively centralized and stored in Bucap’s facilities in Fiano Romano.
Later, from 2018 to date, work progressed and all recording and started archive digitalizing activities – involving official documents, plans, minutes, deliberations and photographs – were completed.
But Acea’s project to develop and valorize its cultural heritage does not end here. The digitalization of the historical archive is just a prelude to other important initiatives: the opening of the Digital Museum with a dedicated website and the future creation of the Acea Museum, a physical place to display our rich historic heritage.
The images in Acea’s digital archive illustrate how our activities have always been centered around sustainability, innovation, and people. But they also represent a journey across time, a way to relive the most significant moments that left a mark in the lives of the citizens of Rome and the whole of Italy.
In 1909, the establishment of Azienda Elettrica Municipale (Municipal Electric Company) was a significant step towards the completion of Rome’s electrification system. To light streets and public areas as well as private homes, buildings, and offices.
In 1929, the first Acea shop promoting the use of energy for domestic purposes opened in Rome: dedicated personnel assisted customers in their purchases and explained how to use the new electric devices.
