Acea is once again the title sponsor of the Rome Marathon this year, confirming its commitment to promoting sporting events. Now in its 30° edition, the event attracts thousands of professionals and amateurs from all over the world every year, and winds its way through the majestic architecture of the Eternal City over a distance of approximately 42 km.
The Rome Marathon carries an important message: #runforwater.
Water is our lifeblood, our invisible fuel. Those who run know that without proper hydration, each step feels heavier, and each finish line seems farther away. In life, just like during a run, a single sip can provide the boost to move forward with strength and determination.
What is more challenging than a marathon? It is a journey spanning kilometers, where every step demands energy, determination, and resilience. Water becomes your most valuable ally in this battle against yourself and your limits.
The event promotes the importance of protecting this vital resource for the environment and the well-being of people. The Acea Group has been managing the capital’s water system for over a century, not merely administering the service but also enhancing this essential element - an integral part of its history, culture, and Rome’s identity - harmoniously intertwined with its architecture and urban landscape.
More than 30,000 runners participating in the 2025 Rome Marathon will have the chance to race along a fast and smooth route. The Acea Run Rome The Marathon will set off on 16 March from Via dei Fori Imperiali, winding through a 42.195 km course that passes some of the capital’s most charming and characteristic locations before concluding at the Circo Massimo. Historical landmarks, such as the Colosseum, the Palatine Hill, the pyramid of Cestius, Castel Sant’Angelo, and St. Peter’s Basilica, will serve as backdrops for the event. Additionally, key symbols of sports and Roman culture, including the Foro Italico, will be featured along the route before runners reach the finish line at the Circo Massimo.
Running a marathon is an experience that requires tenacity, dedication, passion, and proper preparation. Training for the Acea Run Rome The Marathon is a journey, beginning at least three months in advance and culminating in the great event of 16 March. Running and training in the Eternal City is an extraordinary privilege and an unmissable opportunity.

On 25 September 2015, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, setting 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets to improve the well-being of people, the planet, and global economies. This agenda highlights the deep connection between man and planet, moving beyond the reductive view of sustainability as an environmental issue. Instead, it integrates economic, social, and institutional aspects - values the Acea Group has been committed to for years.
The Rome Marathon and Acea are committed to playing their part in achieving some of these goals, including reducing and assessing emissions and promoting awareness of our environmental impact.
Throughout its various editions, Acea and the Rome Marathon have worked towards achieving concrete sustainability goals, including:
The bond between Acea and the Marathon reflects a deep connection to the capital, where the company has been operating for over 110 years, ensuring daily high-quality services for the community. On 2 April 1906, Emilian Dorando Pietri won the first Rome Marathon, crossing the finish line in Piazza Siena. Among this event’s most significant historical moments, Rome 1960 Olympic Games stand out, with Ehiopian athlete Abebe Bikila, famously running barefoot to victory. The modern Marathon as we know it today began in 1995, thanks to the Italia Marathon Club, which quickly transformed the Rome City Marathon into Italy’s leading Marathon in terms of participation and prestige. In 2011, the event was awarded the IAAF Gold Label in 2011. In recent years, the competition has continued to evolve, reaching its current prominence and popularity.
