Acea for World Energy Saving Day
The Museum of Rome in Palazzo Braschi opens its doors to Gustav Klimt, for an event celebrating his life and art, from 27 October 2021 to 27 March 2022.
The city of Rome and Acea Group, as main sponsor of the exhibition, will house the works of Gustav Klimt in Palazzo Braschi, for a project retracing the life and artistic production of the Viennese painter, exploring his relationship with the Belpaese, his journeys and successful exhibitions.
110 years after the artist’s participation in the International Exhibition of Art in 1911, Gustav Klimt comes back to Italy with some of his paintings, loaned by important institutions such as Klimt Foundation, the Neue Galerie Graz and the Belvedere Museum in Vienna.
Klimt exhibition in Rome accompanies the visitor into an authentic journey in the life of the Viennese artist. More than 200 works among paintings, drawings, vintage posters and sculptures, including those of artists close to him, are the heart of the exhibition. Enriching the exhibition, autograph postcards, documenting the Austrian artist’s journeys in Italy in the cities of Trieste, Florence, Pisa, Ravenna – where he became passionate about Byzantine mosaics – Rome and Lake Garda, which inspired some of his landscapes.
Along with some iconic masterpieces as Judith I, Portrait of a Lady in White, Friends I (Sisters) and Portrait of Amalie Zuckerkandl, it is possible to admire some absolutely exceptional loans as The Bride from Klimt Foundation and Portrait of a Lady, stolen in 1997 from the Galleria d’arte moderna Ricci Oddi, Piacenza, and found in 2019.
Not just great works. In the Museum of Rome, Google Arts & Culture Lab Team and the Belvedere Museum in Vienna offer an immersive experience bringing back to life famous paintings known as Faculty Paintings – Medicine, Jurisprudence and Philosophy -, destroyed in a fire in 1945. The allegories, realised by the Viennese painter between 1899 and 1907 for the ceiling of the Aula Magna in the University of Vienna, were refused because considered too scandalous.
Gustav Klimt (Vienna 1862 – 1918) has been the founder and one of the greatest exponents of the Vienna Secession. Considered as one of the most influencing artists of the cultural scene of his time, with his art he addressed the most various topics: figures, allegorical subjects, female nudity, religious topics, portraits. An extremely versatile artist, Klimt was also decorator, drawer, mosaicist, potter and lithographer. Golden backgrounds, smooth and sinuous lines intersecting with geometrical forms, in subjects inspired by nature and dreamt allegorical worlds, are some particularities of his works.
