115 years since its founding, the Group’s commitment to the Holy Year 2025
Acea announced today, in the Saint Pius X Hall in the Vatican, the initiatives and projects launched on the occasion of the Holy Year 2025. The meeting included speeches by H.E. Archbishop Rino Fisichella, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, and Acea's top management, President Barbara Marinali and CEO Fabrizio Palermo, who outlined the company's commitment to this internationally significant event, set to begin in a few days.
One of the most important projects was carried out by Areti, the Group company responsible for managing public and artistic lighting in the City of Rome. The project involved renewing and enhancing the illumination of the statues on the colonnade of St. Peter's Square. Thanks to this light architecture intervention, the 140 travertine sculptures that surmount the columns and pillars of the most famous peristyle in the Christian world are now illuminated by 280 latest-generation projectors, emitting energy-efficient and environmentally friendly LED light. Additionally, the company has upgraded the street lighting to LED in St. Peters’ Square, Via della Conciliazione, and the chandeliers of Bernini's colonnade.
In addition, on the occasion of the Jubilee, Acea is installing 14 additional Water Houses - two within Vatican State territory and 12 in Rome - strategically located along the Jubilee routes and near the main Basilicas. These, along with the existing Water Houses and the iconic 2,500 nasoni (traditional Roman drinking fountains) scattered across the city, will provide refreshment to tourists and pilgrims, offering them one of the purest and most rigorously certified waters in the world: the water of Rome.
The new "Acquea" App has also been launched, mapping and geolocating over 150,000 water points, providing information in three languages (Italian, English and Spanish) about the quality of the water delivered.
Acea will also support the Jubilee of Teenagers, which, from April 25 to 27, will attract more than 100,000 young people aged twelve to seventeen to the capital, through water protection awareness initiatives as part of the water education project in schools.
